Orientation to the Website
In this site, I incorporate different taps/sections related to my academic experience and requirements in the Spanish major. In the home page, I present my personal statement and resume. I included a section for an integrated narrative that describes my experience and overall learning in the major. I also incorporate a tap that describes the Major Learning Objectives (MLOs) of the major followed by narratives that explain of how I fulfill the MLO. In addition, I have a section for my capstone project, for my last two semesters here at Cal State Monterey Bay, and for an Individual Learning Plan (ILP) that shows the courses I completed to for the Spanish major.

Personal Statement
I started my college education with no major in mind, but when I started exploring sociology classes at Cabrillo, I realized that I wanted to learn more about sociology. I got my AA in sociology from Cabrillo College and then I transferred to CSU Monterey Bay where I plan to get a BA in Social and Behavioral Sciences (SBS) with a concentration in Sociology and a BA in Spanish with an emphasis in Literature and Culture. When I transferred to CSUMB, I wanted to get a minor in Spanish but after taking some classes, I decided to study both majors, Spanish and SBS.
On the one hand, I decided to study sociology, which appealed to me and is a subject I wish to further explore. I will like to study sociology to help myself get a job as a high school counselor and at the same time help the community by using the information I learn. Sociology fascinates me because involves the study of societies, including the origin, behavior, development and structure of individuals and groups in society. Sociology has helped me understand more about the society in which we live in and I’m also learning more about societies and how its ideas affect the way we see ethnicity.
On the other hand, I chose the Spanish major because as a native Spanish speaker, I want to learn more about my culture, language and history, while maintaining and developing my native language skills. When I took my first Spanish classes here at CSUMB, I realized how ignorant I was about my culture and that Spanish is not just about grammar, but it also deals with cultures and literature, which I found very interesting and fascinating. I want to learn more about my roots, and history by exploring the literature and culture classes offered in the major, and at the same time, study, recognize and learn about diversity in cultures around the world.
The study of the Social and Behavioral Sciences is important to my future goals and to my career aspirations because it will help me develop a better understanding about society and at the same time will prepare me for graduate school (?) and to be a high school counselor. The study of the Spanish major is important to my future goals and career aspirations because it will help me develop a better understanding about my own culture and cultural identity. At the same time, it will prepare me to recognize and understand another culture while being able to communicate and understand people from two different cultures. Furthermore, by learning about the Social and Behavioral Sciences and the Spanish major, I will have the opportunity to help the community by sharing with them my knowledge, service and my work.
